A stormy summer has passed for Lionel Messi.
The Barcelona star has finally decided to stay at the club despite the murky relationship with Bartomeu and the management, but his season opener does not bode well for the club.
Messi, who holds insane averages of around 50 goals per season in all competitions, scored "only" 31 goals last season and this season he has one league goal and is also on penalties.
Just for comparison, Messi scored 25 league goals last season, his least in a decade and in the Champions League he added just three goals (his least in 15 years).
Another appendix in Messi's stats shows he did not score in 17 of the league's 33 league games last season.
That means in half of the games he did not find the net and that is very rare for him.

Even the opening of the current season does not bode well for Messi.
Even Koeman himself was interviewed after the 1-0 draw against Hattafa and said that "Leo can look better" and that "he has a passion and a desire to get better".
Does Koman have a reason to say that?
Probably so.
After the three months of forced corona recess, Messi returned much less sharp.
Barcelona have played 17 games since June 13, they have won just ten and lost to Osasuna, gotta and of course snatched the top eight from Bayern Munich in the Champions League in a game where Messi was not felt at all.
During those 17 games, Messi did not miss a single minute but scored just eight goals, four of them on penalties.
Things have only gotten worse since Koeman arrived.
In the four opening rounds Messi only scored on a penalty against Villarreal and did not cook even once.
Just for comparison, last season Messi opened the season with five goals and three assists in his first four games.

Barcelona are not expected to have a hard time tonight against Frantzaros in the opening of the Champions Campaign, but around the corner the Clasico is already waiting for them and then also a picnic and very difficult encounter against Ronaldo's Juventus.
Barcelona know they will owe Messi a much better fit, certainly when Suarez is not by his side and Griezmann continues with his weak ability.
Will the Champions League mark the flea comeback, or are we already nearing the end of perhaps the most impressive career a player has ever had?
