At the start of the new Champions League season, Manchester United celebrated an unexpected victory at Paris Saint-Germain in the group of RB Leipzig (the Bundesliga club won against Basaksehir).

Coach Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's team, which started moderately in the Premier League with two wins and two defeats, surprised the finalists of last season with consistent defensive work.

For the opening goal, United needed the support of referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz:

A contact between Abdou Diallo and Anthony Martial should not necessarily have been sanctioned with a penalty.

And when Bruno Fernandes failed with the penalty kick to goalkeeper Keylor Navas, Navas' premature departure from the goal line was punished by a replay by the video assistant.

Such a decision may be compliant, but it is rarely whistled, which the PSG players also complained.

Fernandes ignored the discussion and converted on the second try.

After the break, Manchester's striker Martial put a header from Neymar's corner into his own goal (55th).

The game threatened to tip over, but United managed to keep putting offensive accents.

It was an open game and Marcus Rashford scored the winning goal late.

After a presentation by Paul Pogba, the striker turned, took two more steps and shot flat into the far corner (87th).

Leipzig travels to Manchester next week, PSG have to win at Basaksehir in Istanbul.

In the coming week, Juventus will host FC Barcelona for their second matchday.

Then Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi may meet.

While Ronaldo was absent from Juve's 2-0 win in Kiev due to his corona infection, Messi entered the scorers list for the mandatory win against the Hungarian champions.

Messi gave Barcelona the lead with a converted penalty (27th), the Argentine had previously been fouled himself.

Until then, the favorite had big problems with Ferencvaros.

A goal from Tokmac Chol Nguen was not recognized because of an offside position (10th), Isael hit the crossbar (20th).

But after Messi's goal things went better for the team of coach Ronald Koeman, young star Ansu Fati increased shortly before the break with a direct decrease after a remarkable pass from Frenkie de Jong (42nd).

In the second half the result became clear, which did not correspond to the course of the game.

Budapest kept up well, but no longer had as compelling scoring chances as in the first half.

After Philippe Coutinho's 3-0 win (52nd), Gerard Pique caused an unnecessary penalty against Nguen and was sent off with the red card.

He will be absent against Juventus.

Igor Kharatin made a consolation goal (70th).

Substitute Ousmane Dembélé set two highlights for Barcelona in the closing stages: first he prepared Pedri's goal (82nd), and then scored himself (89th).

The top game in Group E was a disappointment.

For Chelsea, after conceding many goals in recent weeks, the focus was on being defensively good.

The team of coach Frank Lampard succeeded, however, the penetration in the attack was lost.

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, who were both in the starting line-up, couldn't change that.

Given the draw in London, it would have been all the more important for Rennes and Krasnodar to make the duel between the outsiders victorious.

Overall, Rennes was the slightly better team, but the hosts did not manage to keep the lead of ex-Cologne-based Serhou Guirassy (56./foul penalty).

Just three minutes later, Cristian Ramirez equalized with a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area (59th).

Spectators were allowed in Roazhon Park in Rennes, although Brittany, like all of France, is now a corona risk area.

Distance rules were not observed in the grandstands, and many spectators did not wear mouth and nose protection.
