The Champions League threatens an unusual group stage.
That is why UEFA has drawn up rules in the event of a corona outbreak - not all of them are absolutely understandable.
The
Champions League *
starts in an unusual group stage.
From the
UEFA
some new rules were due to the
Corona pandemic *
pronounced.
There is a risk of some 0: 3 game ratings.
Munich - The last
group stage of
the
UEFA Champions League * was
spared the immediate
coronavirus *
.
Now, however,
UEFA is
forced to set up some precautionary rules in the event of widespread corona outbreaks in a host city - or even within a team.
Some of the rules even contradict the usual
UEFA regulations
.
According to the
kicker
,
the teams will be
allowed to retrospectively nominate players who were not actually registered for the tournament.
However, this only applies in the event that “fewer than 13 players on the A list or no registered goalkeeper are available”.
Then UEFA could also allow the game to be rescheduled.

If these measures do not help and the game cannot be rescheduled in time, the match will be rated 0: 3 against the club concerned.
If, however, at least 13 players are ready to play, the game must take place on the scheduled date.
Corona rules in the Champions League: health authorities are crucial
In general, a lot will
depend on
the local
health authorities
.
The clubs usually have no influence on this, but the association holds them responsible for it.
If the authorities of a home team impose restrictions that affect the visiting club, the host must ensure that the game can be played.
He has to bear all organizational costs himself and, according to UEFA, “suggest a suitable alternative venue”.
The stadiums of other participants in the
group phase
should most likely be used for this
.
The clubs are therefore required to “make their arenas
available
as a
neutral venue
for other encounters
if necessary
”.
If the home team does not manage to find an alternative stadium and if no suitable alternative date is possible, the game will be rated 3-0 for the guests.
In principle, however, it is always possible to exchange home rights.
Corona rules in the Champions League: home clubs have to bear responsibility
It gets strange when the authorities of the visiting club impose restrictions that hinder arrival and departure.
Then it is also the home club that has to find an alternative venue.
The clubs then have to share the additional costs and the guests have to
cede
ten percent of their
Champions League *
starting bonus
, which is 15.25 million euros, to the opponent.
"If one of the clubs refuses to participate in the game, they will be held responsible for the fact that the game does not take place," said UEFA.
Then the guilty team is - of course - punished with a 0: 3 game rating.
The European association is flexible
when it comes to appointing
referees
.
Should an official test positive, the association may appoint a replacement who comes from the same country as one of the playing teams and does not even have to be on UEFA's list.
However, it remains to be seen how this will affect the other team in the event of wrong decisions in favor of the compatriots.
