Liverpool FC started the new Champions League season with a narrow win.
The team of coach Jürgen Klopp won 1-0 (1-0) at Ajax Amsterdam.
Ajax defender Nicolás Tagliafico scored the only goal of the game after an own goal.
The Argentine tried to clear a deflected shot from Sadio Mané, but then steered the ball into his own goal (35th minute).
Ajax had many good chances, such as Davy Klaassen, who hit the inside post and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, who shot over the goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
At Ajax, Mohammed Kudus had to go out early with a knee injury (9th), the 20-year-old is considered a great storm talent.
It was the first game for Liverpool without their star central defender Virgil van Dijk, who again sustained a serious knee injury last weekend.
Manchester City also held itself harmless.
Ilkay Gündogan led City to a 3: 1 (1: 1) against FC Porto.
First the German international took out a controversial penalty, which Kun Agüero converted (20th), then Gündogan circled a free kick from 20 meters into the left corner (65th).
Luis Diáz had put Porto in the lead in the 14th minute with a single effort: After a bad pass by City summer arrival Rúben Dias, Diáz moved from the left wing parallel to the goal to the right;
he left three City defenders and shot from the right side of the box into the far corner.
The final score was achieved by City's summer signing Ferrán Torres, who dropped the former Real Madrid defender Pepe in the penalty area and shot in (73rd).
