Julia Görges leaves the stage of professional tennis as number 45 in the world

Julia Görges ends her active tennis career.
The 31-year-old announced this on her website.
"I am ready to close the chapter on tennis and start a new one," said Görges.
Since her first professional season in 2005, Görges has won seven singles and five doubles titles on the WTA tour, including the top-class tournament in Stuttgart 2011. Her greatest success at a Grand Slam tournament was her reaching the semi-finals in Wimbledon in 2018, her highest world ranking ninth place in August 2018.
"I am very grateful for everything you have shown and taught me", Görges addressed the tennis sport in her resignation message: "You will always be in my heart."
National tennis coach Barbara Rittner wished Görges the best of luck for the time after her career.
"Of course it triggers a certain sadness in me when, after Anna-Lena Grönefeld, Julia Görges is the second player to step down from this successful generation," said Rittner.
The former world number 14.
Grönefeld had already ended her active career in December 2019.
With the German Fed Cup team, Görges reached the final against the Czech Republic in 2014, in the 1: 3 defeat she and her doubles partner Sabine Lisicki scored the only point for the German Tennis Association.
Görges played her last individual competition in September at the French Open, when she lost to Laura Siegemund in the second round.
In the WTA world rankings, Görges was in 45th position at the time of her retirement - after Angelique Kerber, she was the second best German player in 25th place.
