The coronavirus has returned with full force: The consequences in sport can be felt everywhere.

The Bavarian Handball Association is now taking a drastic measure.

District

- Since October 3rd, games in Bavarian handball have been running again.

Whereby there can be no question of running.

Crawl would be more appropriate if you look at the list of canceled games.

In the men's regional league (BOL) in the “Alpenvorland” district, only five games have been played on three match days.

In the BOL of women there were only four in the same period.

Now the Bavarian Handball Association (BHV) is drawing the first conclusions from the turbulent early weeks: With immediate effect, the association will cease playing for at least two and a half weeks.

Handball: All games have been canceled for the next three weekends

The next three weekends are affected.

The BHV announced this to its clubs yesterday afternoon after the presidium and districts had reached a unanimous decision on Tuesday.

"The increasing numbers of the pandemic pose great challenges for all those involved in organized handball in Bavaria and lead to uncertainty and insecurity in many places", the association explains its short-term measure.

On Wednesday, November 4th, the clubs would be informed of possible scenarios for how the season would proceed.

The goal is to keep the game on 14./15.

November to resume.

All leagues - in the adult and youth sector - under the umbrella of the BHV, i.e. from the Bayernliga downwards, are affected by the break in play.

Last weekend, women only played games in one of three leagues.

The appearances of the Weilheim handball players in Eichenau and the home game of BSC Oberhausen against HSG Isar-Loisach were canceled due to the corona pandemic flaring up again.

The guest appearance of the Schongau women in Pullach was also not played.

I don't think we can end the season.

David Schmoldt, coach of the Schongau men

This flood of rejections, which was triggered by a rising incidence value in almost all counties in the handball district, came as no surprise to those responsible at clubs in the region.

“I don't think we'll be able to finish the season,” said Schongau's coach David Schmoldt a few weeks ago.

There was also skepticism among the other clubs.

"We as a club have a responsibility to our players," said Alexandra Vincenzi.

For the spokeswoman for the BSC Oberhausen, the health aspect was in the foreground from the start.

“Many players don't want to take the risk,” adds Tanja Rösner from the Schongau women's team.

Those responsible at BSC Oberhausen viewed the regional league with 14 teams critically from the start

Those in charge in Oberhausen, for example, “viewed it critically from the start,” says Vincenzi, that in 2020/21 there will be a women's regional league that will be increased from twelve to 14 teams with a correspondingly tight schedule with games every weekend.

The Oberhausen women’s idea to complete a simple round with a free weekend instead was not heard.

"We had a big appointment a few weeks ago with the district, because the concerns of the clubs were raised," said Michael Sander, coach of the Weilheim women's team.

"But that was not taken into account, and now, unfortunately, what we had feared is happening."
