The Italian world champion coach Marcello Lippi, who led his home country to the World Cup title in Germany in 2006, is ending his career as a coach.
"I'm finally putting an end to the coaching job. It's the right way. Maybe I could be useful in other functions, we'll see," said the 72-year-old in an interview with RadioSportiva.
In any case, he will not accept any orders until spring.
Lippi was Italy's coach from 2004 to 2006 and then again from 2008 to 2010. However, his second term ended less successfully: At the World Cup in South Africa, Italy was eliminated in the preliminary round.
The group was not considered too difficult.
In addition to the Italians, it included Paraguay, Slovakia and New Zealand.
Nevertheless, the Squadra Azzurra was without a win and with two points bottom of the group.
In addition to his career as national coach, Lippi also coached many club teams in Italy, including Juventus, SSC Napoli and Inter Milan.
In 1996 he won the Champions League with Juve and was Italian champion four times.
In November 2019, Lippi resigned as the Chinese national coach after only four competitive games.
He had previously celebrated three championships with Guangzhou Evergrande in China, at the time he was considered the highest paid coach in the world.
