Barcelona players after the Champions League victory (Barcelona's Twitter account)

While in Barcelona there are increasing reports of players' resentment following the cuts, immediately after the light 1: 5 over Frantzvaros in the Champions League, the club announced the extension of the contracts of Gerard Pique (until the summer of 2024), as well as of three other players: Kalman Langela ( 2026), Frankie de Jong (2026) and Mark Andre Ter Stegen (2025).

Today (Thursday) in the Catalan "sport" reveal that Pique agreed to go towards the club and cut no less than 50 percent in his salary to extend his contract.

According to the report Pique asked the club leaders how much he needs to cut to ease the budget and was told that he should cut 50 percent, while the other three cut 30 percent in their salaries.

Gerard Pique's new contract, for example, also does not necessarily prove that Barça are building on him for years to come.

For the contract to be honored, the veteran brakeman will have to play 35 percent or more of the club’s games, and in any case both sides will have reciprocal exit options every summer.

According to ESPN, both Filipe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann are negotiating with the club for a new and reduced contract.

The Brazilian's contract is expected to expire in 2023 and that of the Frenchman in 2024, but both are expected to ease the club and reduce their salaries.

Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets are also in contact with the club.

Pique has started his 13th season at Barcelona after one season at Manchester United and is already 33, so if he stays until the end of his contract he may retire at the age of 37 at the club where he grew up.

Meanwhile, the team has already started preparing for the big Clasico against Real Madrid on Saturday and the big question mark is around the participation of Jordi Alba.

The left-back is expected to return to training today, but Barça will not want to risk him if he is not fully fit, certainly not six days before the meeting against Juventus in the Champions League.
