Goalkeeper Kepa once cost Chelsea FC 80 million euros. But because he made a lot of mistakes recently, he was replaced by Edouard Mendy. Against Manchester United, the summer signing showed why.

With Edouard Mendy, Edouard Mendy moved from Stade Rennes to Chelsea in September, and the club is said to have transferred around 24 million euros for the goalkeeper.

And that despite the fact that the Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga had been brought in as the goalkeeper of the future for a rumored 80 million euros around two years earlier.

Chelsea's problem with the world's most expensive goalkeeper: Kepa made too many mistakes, and mistakes by the 26-year-old regularly cost coach Frank Lampard's team points.

With Mendy, Lampard now seems to have found his support: In the 0-0 win against Manchester United, Mendy parried several great chances from United's Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata and secured at least one point for his club.

Kepa was out of the squad because of a shoulder injury against United.

But before that, Lampard had voted for Mendy as number one.

The game started unspectacularly.

Chelsea had more possession in the first 30 minutes and tried to control the game.

However, the Londoners did not initially develop any major opportunities.

Only the active Christian Pulisic provided good opportunities (32nd / 33rd).

Manchester United left the initiative to Chelsea for a long time, but then had better chances to take the lead.

Marcus Rashford failed with a low shot at goalkeeper Edouard Mendy (35.), shortly afterwards the goalkeeper also parried a shot from 16 meters by Juan Mata (41.).

The second half started similarly.

United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjär switched strikers Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba on after 58 minutes, so the team should develop more penetration on the offensive.

That almost paid off right away, Cavani steered a cross just past the gate to the left (59th).

A little later, Chelsea coach Frank Lampard changed the two Germans Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, both of whom had hardly been able to create chances.

Werner in particular could hardly play his speed.

In the closing stages, Mendy at least saved his team the point.

Rashford tried a flick from a distance, but Mendy blocked the shot after a dive (90th + 1).
