Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike today inaugurated the Olympic Aquatics Center in preparation for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games to be held in the Japanese capital next year.
"The new water sports center will benefit the residents of the Japanese capital just as it will benefit the athletes during the games," Reuters quoted Koike as saying during the opening ceremony, noting that the delay of the opening for seven months was not taken into account.
The center, whose construction cost was $ 523 million, was supposed to open on the 22nd of last March, but the opening was canceled for fear of spreading infection with the Coronavirus, and two days later the Olympic Games were completely postponed to 2021 for the same reason.
The organizers have not yet taken a decision to allow public attendance during the tournament competitions.
