Maybe Kastriot Sopa would actually have won an Olympic medal in boxing in Tokyo next year.

He became German champion several times.

"Kasi", as he is called, is considered one of the greatest talents in German fistfighting.

But nothing comes of the dream, the 27-year-old surprisingly ends his career in Olympic boxing.

Sopa quit after seven years as a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr and never wants to get into the ring for the German Boxing Association (DBV).

"The association puts success above the health of its athletes," he complains, "so there is no point in further cooperation."

Now he is training to be a sports manager and is trying to get started as a professional boxer.

The reason for his departure: Sopa was infected with the corona virus, as he now knows after an antibody test - and blames the boxing officials for it.

They had organized a training camp in Kazakhstan in London in mid-March in preparation for the Olympic qualification.

There he felt tired and sick and was still used for sparring matches.

"For weeks after that, I still felt fucked," he says.
