Winner of the World Cup with Italy in the summer of 2006, Luca Tony confirmed that he and his family were victims of armed robbery at their home.
Former Fiorentina striker Bayern Munich and Verona have said so on Instagram.
"I wanted to confirm that on Thursday evening between 19:30 and 21:30 I was robbed at home by three burglars who wore ski masks and had weapons," Tony wrote.
He added: "The most important thing is that my family will be fine, they did not hurt us but it left us with real trauma and it was very scary. Sad that the criminals took items of sentimental value. Following the robbery the police arrived who were apparently called by his neighbors who suspected "A car in front of the house but the surveillance did not lead to anything. I ask for respect and privacy for me and my family at this moment. Thank you all."
