Maccabi Tel Aviv coach Yannis Sapropoulos conducted a long interview in "Eurosport", in which, among other things, he referred to Danny Abdia and his future in the NBA.
According to the Greek coach, Abdia is expected to succeed in the best league in the world not only because of his talent - but mainly because of his ability to learn and improve and his work ethic.
"It's always hard to say what will happen to a young player who moves from Europe to the US, but in my experience, I can say with almost certainty that he is rarely ready for the NBA," Sapropolos claims, "he has great playing wisdom, and training discipline.
For example, when I arrived two years ago we had a special conversation after the second or third workout.
During a shooting practice, he positioned his elbows in such an unbalanced manner that it affected the trajectory of the ball.
But he took care of it, and changed it within two months.
In two months!

"Our goal this season has always been to integrate Abdia in the Israeli league. He did that, and in the middle of the season his part in our rotation in the Euroleague also improved. Then he had a great tournament in the European Championship, and in 2019/20 he was one of our most important players. And as you know, later he also won the title of Israeli player of the season.
"But what makes this child different from others is the way he develops.
When we came to Maccabi, we analyzed who is good at his basics and who needs to improve.
Danny was a star in his youth, but it was clear he needed to get better.
I offered him a hard training schedule, and a hard schedule. He did not shy away. He would train with us two days a week, and with the youth team five days. He did not even rest one day. I did not want him to leave the youth team because he was without a doubt the best in it And he got it.
"Then in the summer, after a tough season, he practiced all the time, all summer.
We had another call before the 2019/20 season, and he assured me that at the end of this season he would be at a much higher level than I expected.
And he was right.
I think he will develop a great career in the NBA, and of course, if he is happy, it will make us happy too. "
