Led by a stellar Mookie Betts, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays (3-1) on Tuesday and were proclaimed baseball World Series champions for the first time in 32 years.

Tuesday's victory at neutral headquarters in Arlington, Texas, which made the series 4-2 on aggregate, came in a vibrant sixth inning as the Rays led 1-0 thanks to a new home run from their rookie, Cuban Randy Arozarena.

The Dodgers, taking advantage of the fact that pitcher Blake Snell was substituted, scored through Austin Barnes and Mookie Betts, who later hit another home run that gave the Los Angeles franchise the seventh World Series title in its history.

Before tonight, the Dodgers were living in the past.

In 1988 they had won their sixth title by beating the Oakland Athletics in a series (4-1).

And in 1981, with the Mexican Fernando Valenzuela as a figure, they beat the New York Yankees.

The other trophies were obtained in 1955, 1959, 1963 and 1965.

The city of Los Angeles crowns the success of two of its teams: the Dodgers in baseball and the Lakers in basketball.

The team led by LeBron James conquered the NBA by beating the Miami Heat in early October.
