Italian Lorenzo Sonigo defeated Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic 6-2 6-1 today to knock him out of the quarter-finals of the Vienna Tennis Championships.
Djokovic, who has won 39 games for two defeats this year, failed to break his opponent's serve, while Sunigo broke the Serbian player's service five times, achieving the most important victory in his career so far.
Sunigo's first victory over a player from the top ten capped an outstanding week for the 25-year-old, who lost in his last game in the qualifiers but qualified for the main draw with the withdrawal of a participant.
