Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated RB Leipzig for the first time in the Bundesliga.

In Gladbach, coach Marco Rose's team prevailed 1-0 (0-0).

The only goal was scored by Hannes Wolf, who had switched to Borussia on loan from Leipzig in the summer (60th minute).

So far, Leipzig had been something of a feared opponent for Gladbach: RB had won five out of eight league duels, three times there had been a draw.

After a first half, which had only a few dangerous scenes to offer, the Gladbachers came much more energetically into the second half.

In the 60th minute, Alassane Pléa had the opportunity to take the lead, playing flat into the penalty area from the left.

There Patrick Herrmann dropped directly for Wolf, who hit the far corner with his right.

Only through the gate did the game pick up speed.

Leipzig's Marcel Sabitzer was only centimeters missing from his left-footed shot (66th), on the other hand Pléa could have increased it to 2-0 after a pass from Stefan Lainer, but only hit the bar (67th).

Little happened before the break

In the first round, RB had initially defended cautiously, the duel was only sought at the center line.

The hosts, on the other hand, started the game with pressure and attacked Leipzig deep in their half while building up the game.

From this situation there were initially only counter-chances for Leipzig: Yussuf Poulsen's shot after his one-two with Alexander Sörloth was able to steer Borussia goalkeeper Yann Sommer over the goal (10th), a little later Poulsen narrowly missed a cross from Sörloth (23rd) .

Herrmann had the only good opportunity for Gladbach in the 34th minute, when he came free to head in the penalty area, but didn't really catch the ball.

Borussia believed they had another shortly before the break, when Pléa even scored the alleged 1-0 after Herrmann's header was extended.

At the moment of play, the Frenchman was offside, which is why the goal did not count (45th).
