England's football champions Liverpool FC have for the time being conquered the top of the table in the Premier League with a hard-fought home win.
The team of coach Jürgen Klopp won 2: 1 (1: 1) against West Ham United on Saturday evening - at least until Sunday afternoon the Klopp team is at the top with 16 points.
It was the 63rd game in a row that the Klopp-Elf remained undefeated at home, so the team set the club record from 1978 to 1980.
Only Chelsea FC was even more successful between 2004 and 2008 with 83 unbeaten home games in a row.
The Spaniard Pablo Fornals had put the guests in the lead in the 10th minute.
Liverpool's top striker Mohamed Salah equalized in Anfield before the break with a penalty (42.), the Portuguese Diogo Jota scored the winning goal (85.).
Liverpool's city rivals Everton could counter on Sunday (3 p.m.) and overtake the Reds - provided they win at Newcastle United.
The German national players Timo Werner and Kai Havertz had previously won the next Premier League with Chelsea.
In the 3-0 (1-0) away win against Burnley FC, Werner scored his third goal in the seventh league game for the Blues in the 70th minute.
Hakim Ziyech (26th) and Kurt Zouma (63rd) had previously met for the superior guests from London, who initially moved up to fourth place in the table.
Manchester City prevailed 1-0 (1-0) at Sheffield United.
Kyle Walker scored the winning goal (28th).
For the Citizens, who have played a mixed season so far, it was the third win in their sixth game.
Pep Guardiola's team has played one game less than the competition.
