Soccer Bundesliga: Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated RB Leipzig

Guided and still won - that is not a matter of course for this Gladbach season. A horror series ended, the winning goal scorer is still under contract with the loser.

The scene of the game:

For one hour it was a scary kick on Halloween, then Gladbach's Alassane Pléa fit into the penalty area, Patrick Herrmann let it bounce wonderfully, and Hannes Wolf skilfully completed the right corner - his first Bundesliga goal.

For the 21-year-old Austrian Wolf, who has already made the big round trip in the European RB branches with the stops in Salzburg and Leipzig, a "Of all things!" Moment.

The Gladbachers could not take this tour, which was downright surprising.

But more on that later.

The result:

Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated RB Leipzig 1-0 (0-0) in the top game of the sixth Bundesliga matchday.

The first half:

Variability in possession of the ball is the trademark of the teams from Mönchengladbach and Leipzig, which are so often beautiful to look at.

These game ideas, however, neutralized each other from the start in such a way that even Frank Buschmann, who was otherwise so excited, almost fell into his eyes at the Sky microphone.

Only Yussuf Poulsen caused a dangerous situation in the ninth minute after the preparatory work by Alexander Sörloth - his shot was defused by Yann Sommer.

That's it, really, that's all.

Lots of games, lots of changes:

After the biggest defeat in, well, club history, the 0-5 at Manchester United, RB coach Julian Nagelsmann made four changes: Ibrahima Konaté, Marcel Halstenberg, Emil Forsberg and Christopher Nkunku weren't there, but Willi Orban, Marcel Sabitzer, 18-year-old Lazar Samardzic and Sörloth joined the team.

On the other hand, Marco Rose exchanged three times after the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid: Wolf, Patrick Herrmann and Breel Embolo replace Lars Stindl, Christoph Kramer and two-goal scorer Marcus Thuram.

Family

:

Sörloth's father Göran experienced a tolerably unsuccessful season in the Gladbach team in the 1988/1989 season.

Five Bundesliga games and no goal remained the bottom line.

In his last game, a befitting defeat at VfB Stuttgart, he was substituted for André Winkhold.

The older VfL fans will use this information to make a not very flattering classification.

Even his son could not give the name Sörloth in Mönchengladbach a new shine.

The second half:

A serious mistake in the build-up of Dayot Upamecano gave the hosts their best chance so far in the 48th minute, but Pléa's shot in the RB goal did not pose a major challenge for Peter Gulacsi.

Then the Wolf, on loan from Leipzig to Gladbach, met, Sabitzer narrowly missed the equalizer in the 66th minute, and a minute later Pléa only hit aluminum after a counterattack.

The goal seemed to have solved the misunderstanding of the two systems, suddenly it was a brisk encounter with high entertainment value, which was also hearty: referee Daniel Siebert distributed six yellow cards in the second round.

And left it stuck often enough when it was attached to itself.

However, a second goal did not fall, the championship leader fell.

No throwaway society:

The Gladbach team had already conceded goals four times this season in the closing stages, which cost them points.

Against Union Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg in the league, against Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the premier class.

This unpleasant peculiarity of the five-time German champion was not repeated against Leipzig.

Series end:

The two teams had met eight times in the Bundesliga, and the Gladbach team had never won.

Even worse: all four home games against RB were lost.

Both series can now move into the eternal hunting grounds of the Bundesliga history.

Stability as a value:

after six match days, the Bundesliga table has shifted.

Bayern are ahead of BVB, followed by Leipzig and Gladbachers.

That was exactly the entry after the 34th matchday of the previous season.

Exciting is different.
