Six Nations tournament: three French people nominated for the title of best player

It would be a sacred first for the XV of France.

Since the establishment of the honorary classification of best player of the Six Nations Tournament in 2004, never a Habs has been distinguished until then.

The organizers of the competition have selected for the 2020 edition, contested in two stages after the interruption due to the first confinement, five names including three French.

Among the Habs are third row Gregory Alldritt (La Rochelle), opening half Romain Ntamack (Toulouse) and scrum half Antoine Dupont (Toulouse).

At their side are two representatives of the XV de la Rose, winner of the Tournament, the 2nd line Maro Itoje and his colleague in the scrum Ben Youngs as well as the Irish third line CJ Stander.

Nothing surprising in this preselection which gives pride of place to the English winners but also to the XV of France which finished second, a performance never achieved since 2011. Alldritt displays statistics which make him one of the serious candidates for the distinction.

The third row, elected three times best player of the match in the three games played at the Stade de France (England, Italy and Ireland), is the second best tackler and ball scraper.

Antoine Dupont, 23, and Romain Ntamack, 21, have stabilized the hinge in the France team to make it one of the most successful on the field.

The winner will succeed Welshman Alun Wyn Jones.
