It started so well, but it ended with a defeat: EC Peiting was 2-0 up in the first league game against ECDC Memmingen, but in the end it wasn't enough to score.
Peiting - The ECDC Memmingen is slowly becoming a feared opponent of the EC Peiting: In the past season, the ECP only won one of six duels.
At the start of the new league season on Friday evening, coach Sebastian Buchwieser's team was defeated by the Allgäuers 2: 5 (2: 1, 0: 2, 0: 2).
The coach spoke of a "deserved victory for Memmingen".
Peiting's Nardo Nagtzaam won the starter - and that was a hint for the rest of this section.
The Peitinger controlled the action well.
The first majority remained unused (2nd), but a little later newcomer Martin Hlozek took advantage of a position error by the hosts and scored 1-0 (4th).
Memmingen - slowed down in preparation by corona cases and due quarantines - was hardly ever dangerous.
Unfortunately for the ECP, defender Fabian Weyrich (probably with an adductor injury) had to leave the ice.
A quick move over Ty Morris then gave the ECP the second goal: Again Hlozek appeared free in front of the "Indians" goal and sank the puck in the corner (9th).
Memmingen came as a surprise to 1: 2 (16).

In the middle third, the Memminger acted more courageously.
The fore-checking, sometimes with multiple players, was not to the taste of the Peiting.
ECP goalie Florian Hechenrieder had to intervene more.
The guests hardly got any good moves.
“We probably thought that it would work without absolute discipline.
But that doesn't work against a team like Memmingen, ”said Buchwieser.
Nevertheless, the chance to make it 3-1 was there: In an attack, first Thomas Heger and then Andreas Feuerecker (29th) failed.
The strong save from keeper Lukas Steinhauer "was a sticking point in the game", said Buchwieser.
Especially since a few moments later Memmingen's Jonas Wolter was on the spot on the opposite side and scored the 2-2 equalizer (29th).
Not too long after that, Johan Schreiber even scored 3: 2 (32nd) with a remarkable individual action.
The ECP tried hard, Aziz Ehliz narrowly failed in a promising position (38th).
In the final third it went back and forth, with playful highlights hardly to be seen.
Both teams were committed to their cause - and had good opportunities.
Lukas Gohlke found his master in the power play in "Indians" goalkeeper Steinhauer.
Alexander Winkler also had no success with his shot.
Gohlke was in the best position after that, but the puck slipped under the bat (50th).
Technically flawless, however, was the slap shot by Memmingen's Philipp de Paly, which hit the Peitinger goal to make it 4-2 (53rd).
ECP coach Buchwieser took the goalkeeper off the ice for a sixth field player early on.
Memmingen scored with an empty net goal to make the final score 5: 2 (58th).
The Peitinger team will play their first home game on Sunday.
The opponent is the SC Riessersee at 6 p.m.
Spectators are not allowed due to the restrictions imposed by Corona.
