VfL Wolfsburg remained unbeaten in the Bundesliga even after seven match days.
In the home game against TSG Hoffenheim, VfL prevailed 2-1 (2-0) thanks to goals from Renato Steffen (5th minute) and Wout Weghorst (26th), while Sargis Adamyan scored for Hoffenheim (88th).
Weghorst (84th) and Munas Dabbur (90th + 4) awarded two penalties.
Despite the series, it was only the second win of the season for Wolfsburg, after Oliver Glasner's team had drawn five times.
The mood before the game had barely hinted at the later result: Hoffenheim had traveled to Wolfsburg with the confidence of a 5-0 win against Slovan Liberec in the Europa League.
At the Wolves, coach Glasner had a verbal exchange of blows with sports director Jörg Schmadtke during the week and publicly criticized the transfer activities of his club.
However, Wolfsburg could be satisfied with the performance on the pitch: First Steffen made a counterattack to the early lead (5th), Weghorst increased to 2-0 (26th) after a pass from the Swiss.
TSG defender Kevin Akpoguma had previously been able to clear Weghorst's first attempt before the line.
Hoffenheim chances were rare: Ishak Belfodil missed the best self-played opportunity shortly before the break (40th).
The greatest Hoffenheim chance in the second run by Christoph Baumgartner was preceded by a loss of the ball by Steffens in his own penalty area (55th).
Weghorst missed a penalty shortly before the end (84th), Hoffenheim came after a mistake by John Anthony Brooks to the connecting goal by Adamyan (88th).
After a handball by Maximilian Arnold, Hoffenheim also had the late chance from the point, but Dabbur failed at the last minute to Koen Casteels in the Wolfsburg goal (90 + 4).
