Manchester City have missed an important win in their battle to catch up with the top flight of the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola's team played 1: 1 (1: 1) against Liverpool, but had enough chances to even win the game against the English champions: while Mohamed Salah (13th, penalty kick) and Gabriel Jesus (31st. ) scored for the two best clubs of the past league season, Kevin De Bruyne missed a penalty (42nd).
In an initially fast-paced game, Salah gave Liverpool an early lead from the penalty spot (13th) after Kyle Walker had previously unhappily crossed Sadio Mané's path in the penalty area.
Jesus had the answer after a pass to De Bruynes: In the penalty area, the Brazilian, who was replacing the injured Sergio Agüero in the Citizens' attack center, turned around Trent Alexander-Arnold and scored the equalizer from close range (31st).
De Bruyne also prepared the big chance to take the lead - albeit indirectly: A cross from the Belgian hit the arm of Liverpool's central defender Joe Gomez, who was replacing the injured defender Virgil van Dijk.
However, De Bruyne put the due penalty to the left of the goal of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker (42nd).
Both Alexander-Arnold (44th) and Jesus (55th) subsequently gave good chances to equalize.
In the closing stages, both teams lacked the esprit of the first hour, Liverpool and City both seemed to be able to live with a draw.
The result fits in with the season in the Premier League so far: unlike in previous years, no team can break away from the competition, with only eight points between leaders Leicester City and 15th Leeds United.
