Two days with a French flavor will begin in Israel tonight (Tuesday) with the arrival of Shula in Holon, and will continue tomorrow with the appearance of Limoges in Jerusalem.

The two games in the FIBA Champions League were supposed to take place in France, but the rise of morbidity in Corona in the country led to the replacement of the home team.

There was great satisfaction when the French league started.

Everything went well, and unlike most leagues in Europe, there was a large audience in the halls (of course in a limited amount).

But after a short time the problems started.

First came a wave of contagions in several teams that caused games to be postponed (between the teams there was also Shula, so a game against Holon was postponed to today), later came the decision to close France, and the league is almost paralyzed.

Between the leagues in France and Israel there is an abysmal difference in approach regarding closure.

With us, when a general closure was announced, we in the league begged for an exception that would allow the games to take place so that the business would not collapse.

In France, on the other hand, it was the teams that announced that without an audience they would not play, even though they were allowed to do so.

The claim of the French teams is that the continuation of the games behind closed doors will lead to an economic collapse.

Tony Parker, president of Wheelerban, has already called on the government for financial help "to save basketball", and the league did not really know how to proceed.

Few teams sided with the rest of the league without a crowd, and the majority were in favor of stopping it until the fans were allowed to return - a move with a huge risk to the very continuation of the season.

The complicated situation led to a very strange interim decision: the league will be discontinued, but in each round there will be two games - the ones that were supposed to be broadcast, and this of course to keep the contract with the broadcast franchisee.

Three Israelis are playing in the French league this season and are hurt by the whole story - Rafi Manko in the questionnaire, Itai Segev in Grablin and Tomer Ginat in Balboa.

While the first two go into a kind of downtime, the garden has at least the Eurocup.

The French league, therefore, is at a dead end and shrouded in uncertainty, and a few more weeks in this situation could lead to far-reaching measures such as its complete halt.
