After eight days of hospitalization, Diego Maradona is getting ready to leave the clinic in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires where he was successfully operated on for a hematoma on his head.

"Maradona is authorized to go out", announced to journalists gathered in front of the establishment his personal doctor, Dr. Leopoldo Luque, when leaving the premises.

Shortly before, the doctor had published on his Instagram account a photo showing him next to his famous patient whose head was barred with a large bandage.

Diego Maradona, 60, could continue his convalescence in Tigre, 30 km north of the Argentine capital.

He would be followed in a condominium near the home of his daughter Giannina, one of the five children he recognized.

"The idea is that Diego is surrounded by the people who are closest to him because these are the links that can help him to recover, in addition to the psychological and medical follow-up", declared Monday Carlos Diaz, psychologist and member. of the medical team treating him.

"The most difficult moment of his life"

In the morning, his lawyer Matias Morla, had indicated that he "was going through perhaps the most difficult moment of his life".

"It is a miracle that the hematoma on the head was detected," he added.

Confined since March due to the pandemic and his fragile health, Diego Maradona had insisted on October 30, the day of his 60th birthday, to lead the training of his players from Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, a club from this city located at 60 km from Buenos Aires.

But he didn't appear to be in good shape, was walking with difficulty and had only been on the pitch for a few minutes before retiring.

The 1986 world champion was hospitalized with anemia and dehydration on November 2 in La Plata.

A CT scan revealed the presence of a subdural hematoma, a pocket of blood formed under the skull.

He was then transferred to a private clinic in Olivos where he was successfully operated on the next day.

During the postoperative period, the former N. 10 experienced difficulties linked to an abstinence syndrome, linked to his consumption of alcohol and sleeping pills, according to Dr. Luque, justifying the length of his patient's hospitalization. , despite an "amazing" recovery after the operation.
