When Sergio Ramos takes a penalty, the ball is almost always in place. Against the Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, Ramos failed twice - and that in his record game of all places.

In the Nations League, Spain has given up group leadership.

Against Switzerland, the team around captain Sergio Ramos did not get beyond a 1: 1 (0: 1).

And although Ramos replaced the Italian Gianluigi Buffon as the European record player with 177 internationals, the central defender had nothing to celebrate.

Ramos missed two penalties in the second half, both of which Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer saved.

Sommer steered the first penalty after a handball by Ricardo Rodríguez past the post (57th minute).

Ramos chipped the second penalty after a foul by Nico Elvedi on Álvaro Morata on the half-left, and Sommer held the ball (80 ').

At that point, Spain was still behind.

Ramos is actually a very surefire shooter.

He has never missed two penalties in one game in his professional career.

According to statistics from the portal transfermarkt.de, Ramos only missed three of his 32 penalties in his professional career before the game against Switzerland.

Because of this and because of his header game, he is considered one of the most dangerous central defenders in professional football.

Last season he scored eleven goals for Real Madrid in the Spanish league.

Freuler with a dream goal

Remo Freuler brought the "Nati" into the lead with a dream goal.

Freuler shot a cross from Breel Embolo with a soulful dropkick into the left corner (26th).

As a result, Spain and especially Unai Simón were lucky: The goalkeeper, who was between the posts instead of David De Gea and Kepa, ran wide of the ball in the 55th minute.

Haris Seferovic failed with his shot at Ramos clearing the line.

It was up to Gerard Moreno that Ramos' misses were not punished with a defeat.

In the 89th minute he shot a Sergio Reguilón cross straight into the goal.

Summer was still over.

Due to the draw, Spain falls back to second place in Group 4 of Nations League A.

Germany won a parallel game against Ukraine and took the lead in the table.

In the direct duel on Tuesday (8.45 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de), Spain now has to win in order to reach the Final Four.
