DFB debacle against Spain: barbers in Seville

2020-11-18T10:16:57.538Z

What a gossip: The DFB-Elf conceded the highest defeat in Spain in 89 years. The national coach then only seems at a loss, without ideas. He is now facing months of debate.

Scene of the game:

Serge Gnabry dribbled in front of the Spanish penalty area, he let two defenders stand with a turn of his body, pulled powerfully, the ball hit the crossbar.

Anyone who switched on the television at that second had the momentum to get a good impression of the German team.

However, it was already the 77th minute, and it was the DFB team's very first shot on goal.

At that point it was 5-0 for Spain.

Result of the game:

6-0 (3-0) for Spain.

6: 0!

And again, because otherwise you might not believe it: six to zero.

A historic result.

The match report, which will read a lot about Spanish goals, can be found here.

The first half:

After just a few minutes, the DFB defense was lucky when the referee moved a German foul from his own penalty area in front of the penalty area.

That was the end of the happy moments for the Löw-Elf.

Morata opened the scoring after a corner kick (17th minute), then it continued with light hits from Ferrán Torres (33rd) and Rodrigo (38th).

The Spaniards were still negligent in dealing with their chances, in the German team there was a lack of everything.

With 0: 3 it went into the break, the DFB-Elf had last seen on Ash Wednesday 2006 in Florence.

Then the politicians wanted to quote the trainer Jürgen Klinsmann before the Bundestag sports committee.

The second half:

It went on just like before the break.

A completely apathetic German team that had its counterpart in a frozen Joachim Löw in the coaching bench.

Ferrán Torres scored the 4-0 shortly after the move, and then at the latest it was problematic to forego all "stop-the-count" jokes.

As in the USA, it would not have worked here either.

Ferrán Torres with his third goal (72nd minute) and Mikel Oyarzabal (89th) increased to half the dozen.

The DFB-Elf had long since slumped like an airy cream mousse.

Player of the game:

Manuel Neuer was celebrated for his 96th international match before the game.

Good thing they did before kick-off.

He is the DFB record goalkeeper.

What such a title is worth on the pitch was then seen at the next record: Neuer had never conceded six goals in 90 minutes in 95 games before.

He'll remember the game.

Date of the game:

May 24, 1931. A German selection has already lost 6-0.

Against Austria.

It was the second highest defeat in the history of the association.

Only a 0: 9 against England is still in the statistics.

But the Spaniards were too gracious for that that evening.

It would have been possible.

Debate of the game:

ARD live commentator Tom Bartels opened the barrel during the game. The longer the game lasted, the more frequently the names Boateng, Hummels and Müller were mentioned.

The national coach will not have this discussion in the next few months.

Numbers of the game:

Sample only from the first half: 14: 1 shots on goal.

Ball possession 65 percent to 35 percent.

Passes: 350 to 189. Dark cloud is called nube oscura in Spanish.

Quote from the game:

"That was a well-fought duel!" Tom Bartels was downright euphoric after a German defender had fought for a ball in his own half when he was 5-0 down.

The sheer humiliation for the 2014 World Champion from the final commentator of the Rio Finals.

Quote from game II:

"That is difficult to explain." Joachim Löw with the oath of disclosure after the game.

Although: You can even take it from him.

Don't forget:

the Spaniards were very strong.

That has to be said with so much navel gazing.

Luis Enrique's team celebrated a brilliant resurrection.

Realization of the game:

The national team has lost many people and left them indifferent.

Such an evening, such a debacle, such a footballing catastrophe, such a fiasco at least has an effect: We are talking about this team again.

And about her trainer.

There are four long months until the next international match.

Something is going to happen.

Something has to happen.
