Corona makes it necessary, technology makes it possible: The U13 ice hockey team of EV Moosburg relies on cyber training in lockdown times.

Moosburg

 - Lukas Hölzl arranges his exercise mat and puts the laptop in sight.

The ten-year-old is preparing for the training of the U13 ice hockey team from EV Moosburg.

His teammates and coach Ilker Eris will soon log in to the cyber training session.

For the student from Dreirosenstadt, gymnastics with webcam and screen is almost routine.

Because the EVM was one of the first clubs in Bavarian ice hockey to offer this form of training for its offspring in March at the first lockdown.

“I copied it a bit from the big Bayern Munich, because they did it back then,” says coach Ilker Eris, recalling the beginnings.

“I thought I can do that with my kids too.

Because not all have the opportunity to go out into the garden or courtyard to play or to exercise.

And before they sit around in front of the console, we do training from home so that the children get fit for the season. "

The U13 trainer implemented this approach with the help of Zoom video conferencing software, which works on mobile phones, tablets, computers and laptops.

Although there were still minor technical problems at the beginning, they were all quickly resolved.

Eris usually creates a meeting the day before training and sends the corresponding link to his protégés, who then log in.

All participants can see each other via split screen.

In the first lockdown, when the children were also not allowed to go to school, there was training every two days.

The U 13 is currently online two to three times a week.

Each unit lasts around an hour.

More than half of the time, the posture gymnastics, which is important for ice hockey players, is done, in particular the core muscles are strengthened.

Then it goes on with interval training - with push-ups, jumping jacks and sit-ups, the young ice hackers really work out.

"The training is sometimes really tough."

“It's really fun to do cyber training once or twice a week.

Above all, it's nice that you can meet up with friends from the team like this.

Even if the training is sometimes really tough, ”says Lukas Hölzl.

Coach Eris prepares every single exercise and then corrects his protégés on the screen.

As a little homework, the puck hunters can think of their favorite exercise for the next lesson and then present it to the whole group.

Although ten-year-old Lukas enjoys virtual training, he misses the time on ice skates in the ice rink.

There he emulates his great role model Leon Draisaitl, who sets records in the NHL as a German player at the Edmonton Oilers.

So it's no wonder that Lukas prefers to play the NHL game from EA Sports on his console.

During cyber training, Lukas is sometimes supported by his seven-year-old sister.

She then takes part in the exercises.

No problem for coach Ilker Eris.

He knows that his team is passionate about it and lets the children be children from time to time.

The 30-year-old trainer completed an internship at the club in 2011 and obtained his coaching license a year later.

Since then he has looked after the U 13.

Moosburger young ice chopper on the road to success

In his youth, Eris himself was on the ice as a defender at EV Moosburg and can look back on a very successful 2020 as coach of his junior team: In March the Moosburger U 13 finished the district league group 4 as the undefeated table leader - 16 wins from 16 games to book.

The last two games in Fürstenfeldbruck and against Dachau ended with 12: 1 and 9: 0 for the EVM youngsters.

Before the current season, a game community was agreed with the second U13 team of EV Landshut.

With the broader player base, the newcomer in the regional league group 4 has been doing quite well since the beginning of October: Twelve points from six games are a proud series, which has now been interrupted by the lockdown.

Admittedly, Eris and his cyber training group hope they can return to the ice soon to further build their track record.

“If the season were to be canceled entirely, it would be like a wad for me and the children.

So very negative, ”says Eris.

“I think that I will continue with cyber training because the children need other activities and exercise besides school.

Otherwise the social aspect would also be missing. ”After all, it is a team -“ that lives from being together and ultimately also from doing nonsense together or just talking ”.

The Corona regulations went too far for him: “The children go to school anyway and have contact with others.

The training operation could be maintained because the hygiene measures at the EVM are strictly adhered to.

That means we haven't had a case with us yet. ”It looks different with the league game:“ In the current situation, someone from Schweinfurt doesn't necessarily have to go to Moosburg, where 40 children are on the ice - and one of them may be infected .

But training would be desirable.

Otherwise I'm also a little afraid that some children will stop playing ice hockey. "
