Last week, a new series of podcasts aired on ESPN that tells the story of the legend that he is Yannis Antocompo.
The not-so-simple life track of the Greek freak, from a poor kid on the streets of Athens, to the NBA MVP, was winding and unusual, and now it turns out there was one character there who made it all happen.
Sofoklis Schortsanitis.
In an interview with Adrian Wozniacki, the Milwaukee star recounted the moment he watched the Greek national team cheat on the United States team during the 2008 Olympics semi-finals in Beijing - and was impressed not only by his basketball abilities.
"I wanted to be a football player, like Thierry Henry. I remember seeing his end, Baby Shack. He was huge. I remember we were at home, they beat the USA, we were very happy, but most of all I was surprised - a black player was a part of it.
We can do it.
We can be professional athletes and represent Greece.
It was the first moment I believed we could do it. "
Schorzianitis, the son of a Greek father and a Cameroonian mother, finished the same mythical victory with 14 points in 17 minutes. Antokompo, a immigrant from Nigeria, watched the game with his two brothers in the living room - and rejoiced:" Sofo was a huge player, but people do not understand what he did to our community.
Liddles like me, sons of immigrant parents, born and raised in Greece, he gave us hope.
"If he could be on the team, represent Greece and kill the United States - it was great. He gave us all a chance to dream that we could become something big in life."

Sofo, 35, won the Euroleague in 2014 with Maccabi Tel Aviv, in which he played for two terms (2010-2012, 2013-2015).
After the Yellows passed the Red Star Belgrade, PAOK Thessaloniki, Trikala and Unicus, in an attempt to make a comeback to the floor.
The Greek chin has not yet officially announced his retirement from basketball, but recently admitted that he will probably not play professionally again.
