Ligue 2: the stats that make Chambly believe in maintenance

2020-11-25T09:29:16.163Z

Before going to AC Ajaccio this Saturday, the oisien club is last after 11 days. Uncomfortable, but not insurmountable judging by

The draw snatched on November 7 in Troyes (2-2), then 2 nd in Ligue 2, allowed Chambly to end a series of 4 defeats.

The sharing of points obtained this Saturday in Beauvais against Toulouse (1-1), relegated from Ligue 1, confirmed the slight improvement.

Two valuable results in two games against reputable clients, but which are fundamentally not a game-changer.

Last in the standings since its defeat at Auxerre (4-0) on October 24, Chambly still has only one victory in eleven days!

On the clock, only 7 points (1V, 4N, 6D) and the worst defense in the championship with 21 goals conceded.

A necessarily bad situation but far from being inextricable, as the statistics for the last ten seasons show at 38 games (*).

Explanations before the trip to AC Ajaccio (17th) this Saturday.

71.4% of teams with a single win held on

This is clearly the stat that gives Chambly the most hope.

Counting only one victory after 11 days is far from prohibitive.

Since the 2009-2010 season, seven teams have experienced this lean period: Nancy (2018-19), Tours (2016-17), Nîmes (2015-16), Arles Avignon (2014-15), Monaco (2011- 12), Reims (2010-11) and SC Bastia.

Five of them managed to turn the situation around and hold on, or 71.4%!

Only Arles Avignon and SC Bastia plunged: they had respectively 7 and 10 victories on the evening of the 38th day but were still stuck in 20th place.

Among the beautiful climbs, to mention that of Monaco.

After eleven disappointing first games (1V, 6N, 4D), the team coached by Marco Simone and in which Layvin Kurzawa and Ludovic Giuly played ended the 2011-12 season in 8th place (13V, 13N, 12D).

Last but with 50% chance of escaping

Closing the ranks is difficult for self-esteem, but it is possible to escape it.

This is what five teams have proven: Alain Perrin's Nancy in 2018-19, Tours (2016-17), Nîmes (2015-16), Monaco and Reims (2010-11).

Five teams saved, but five others dropped by the wayside: after having narrowly escaped (16th) the previous season, Tours (20th) could not avoid relegation in 2017-18, nor Arles Avignon (20th ), CA Bastia (20th, 2013-14), Sedan (19th, 2012-13) and SC Bastia (20th, 2009-10).

Among the latter, two teams had no victory after 11 days: Tours and CA Bastia.

On the other hand, among the 50% of teams to have finally maintained, it is necessary to point out the performance of Nîmes in 2015-16.

Sanctioned by 8 penalty points at the start of the season for their involvement in the case of allegedly rigged matches in Ligue 2 the previous year, the Crocodiles had a victory but 0 point after 11 days, they completed the championship in 14th place (13V, 12N, 13D).

Having the worst defense is not fatal in 52.9% of cases

The catenaccio wanted by Bruno Luzi has always been one of the pillars of the success of the Chambly club, mounted 12 times in 30 years and never relegated.

In this first third of the championship, Chambly has the worst defense.

A first in the history of the club but a tendency to open doors from which it is possible to recover.

Of the 17 clubs that had the most goals conceded after 11 days in 10 years (several teams could be tied), nine have nevertheless pocketed their maintenance at the end of the year, or 52.9% of cases.

On the other hand, the situation becomes more complicated when the teams accumulate the two handicaps that Chambly has: being last AND having the worst defense.

In this case, four out of seventeen teams have been relegated, or 80%.

Only Tours, in 2016-17, managed to hold on.

He had, like Chambly today, 21 goals conceded in eleven games.

Toifilou Maoulida and his partners finally won their maintenance (16th, 10V, 13N, 15D) despite a tender defense to the end (60 goals conceded).

7 points, one chance in two

With only one victory, on September 26 against Châteauroux (2-1), for 4 draws and 6 losses, Chambly has only 7 points in the standings.

A scenario that has only occurred twice in the last ten full seasons.

Only Tours in 2016-17 and Arles Avignon in 2014-15 were last with 7 units after 11 days.

The Tourainees finally fled, not Arles Avignon (20th).

A stat which, here again, leaves hopes in Chambly.

Especially if, in the wake of its two precious draws against big arms, the Picard club negotiates well the triptych that awaits it in a week: Ajaccio (17th, 11 pts) this Saturday in Corsica, then Rodez (18th, 10 pts) and Valenciennes (11th, 15 pts) at home on December 1st and 5th.

The 2019-2020 season, stopped after 28 games due to the health crisis linked to the conoravirus, has not been taken into account.
