Diego Maradona 2020-1960
When opinion becomes a fact: Diego Maradona was the greatest of them all
Whoever saw Diego Maradona at his peak lost the ability to objectively judge all the greats who came after him and even those he did not see before him.
The notion that he is "the greatest of all time" has become for many even outside Argentina an indisputable statement.
In his case, no superlative was excessive

There is nothing more disgusting than the memories of the "deceased and I" that the subjects of eulogies tend to unfold, but in the case of Diego Maradona there seems to be simply no choice.
Maradona has touched so many generations thanks to so many points in his career - from the first and failed World Cup in Spain in 1982, through his short and unsuccessful tenure in Barcelona to the significant achievements of his career: the huge 1986 World Cup, which included two historic goals, each in his own way, against England, the team The history he put up in Naples, the tears after the World Cup in Italy, the drugs, the suspensions, the shots, the coaching career and what not.
The biggest of them all you know even if you have not experienced them in real time.
This is true of every field, from politics through culture to sports.
Children who grew up in the 1980s and saw Maradona often heard their parents say that "he is good, but he did not fall."
Many of the 40-plus-year-olds who experience Messi and Ronaldo today also claim that "they are not Maradona."
Such comparisons are inherently doomed to failure.
There is no real way to compare generations, between styles, between eras.
After all, part of the rebellion against the parents is to claim for ourselves that Diego is better than Pele, even if we have not seen Pela and even if we know that Pele, with 12 years of dominance and three World Cups, is probably overshadowing him.
Maradona did not demand to do the defense that Messi and Ronaldo do, he did not play 60 games a season.
It could be that in today's football too he was so formidable, and it could be that he was just another huge player out of a battery of great players who succumbed to injuries and lousy character.
In general, Messi and Ronaldo have been keeping themselves in the top for 13-14 years.
Maradona was in the top a little over half that time, so it's all in the eye of the beholder.

There were many giants in his generation, there was no one like him.

But the observer who saw Maradona between 1984 and 1990 simply could not argue otherwise, then and today.
There is no such option.
Opinions are not a world of black and white, certainly when there are too many arguments here or there, but in this case there is an absolute truth.
If you experienced Maradona at his peak, you were simply deprived of the right to say he was someone bigger than him.
Maradona did not have in his time a true Nemesis who was equal to him.
Not Gullit, not Van Basten and not Platini either.
He was one in a generation, and one of two or three in an entire century.
There are many less good things to say about Maradona.
Come on, he was not exactly a model of sanity and chastity.
After martyrdom is supposed, and in his case it is really hard to separate the last 25 years from the decade that came before them.
Still, everything that happened to him off the field was an inseparable shell from his talent and abilities.
After all, true genius cannot come without a certain amount, big or small, of madness.
For him, the bigger the troll, the more the touch.
"In Argentina we loved football because of the ball and because of Diego," wrote former Betar Jerusalem footballer Dario Fernandez on Facebook. This is no exaggeration. The generals soon forgot the hero of 1978. So much so that Maradona was huge - in eight years he put in the shadow the first win that heralded the departure of Argentina from laboratories to freedom in more ways than one.The face imprinted on the World Cup is his and no one else's.

5 things that must be done soon when entering a new and empty apartment
My "deceased and I" moment arrives at the 1986 World Cup. Argentina vs. Belgium in the semi-finals in Mexico, somewhere in the morning.
The clock rang, but I did not get up.
A 12-year-old boy who swallowed the tournament until his strength was exhausted and did not even hear the ring.
I missed the huge duo, maybe missed the big football broadcast of my life.
Ironically, this duo was not only my miss, but also Maradona's himself.
These were not just the expatriates, it was a huge show throughout the 90 minutes.
After all, if not for the two goals against England, everyone would be talking about the game against Belgium, which was one of the biggest demonstrations of virtuosity in the history of the game.
A lot of superlatives have been spilled, spilled and more will be spilled on Maradona.
Superlative is inherently associated with exaggeration, but not in this case.
Diego Maradona was exactly what everyone says.
In fact, he was much more.
