The coffin containing the body of Diego Maradona, football legend who died Wednesday, has arrived at the Argentine presidential palace in Buenos Aires where the wake will be held.
Diego Maradona's coffin was transported in an ambulance accompanied by an important security device, AFP noted.
Hundreds of people were already lining up in front of the presidential palace (Casa Rosada) to pay tribute to the 1986 world champion, who died at the age of 60 from a heart attack.
The wake for the general public will take place Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time (9 a.m. to 7 p.m. GMT), a statement from the presidency said.
The idol's ex-wife, Claudia Villafañe, and their two daughters Dalma and Gianinna, had visited Casa Rosada shortly before midnight.
Following them came the president of the Argentinian Football Federation (AFA), Claudio Tapia, and active or retired players, including teammates of Maradona from the epic of the 1986 World Cup, won by the Albiceleste in Mexico.
These people were invited to take private leave, before the opening to the public.
Argentine President Alberto Fernandez has decreed three days of national mourning.
Maradona's death occurred at noon Wednesday from a heart attack at her home in the northern suburbs of Buenos Aires.
