Peter Shilton, the English goalkeeper in the quarter-final that Argentina won 2-1 against England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final in Mexico City, in an interview with the
Daily Mail
regretted that Maradona had never been apologized for the goal, the first of two he scored in this legendary match.
The Argentina forward was "the greatest player I have ever faced," admitted Shilton.
“What I don't like is that he never apologized,” he said.

“At no time has he admitted to having cheated and said he would like to apologize,” he notes.
“Instead, he used his phrase 'hand of God'.
It was not fair ”.
“It seems he had greatness in him, but unfortunately no sportsmanship,” he concludes.
Shilton, 71, notes that her life “has long been tied to that of Diego Maradona, and not in the way I would have liked.
But I am saddened to learn of his death at such a young age.
He was without a doubt the greatest player I have ever faced and my thoughts are with his family ”.
Shilton says he hopes the famous goal "won't mar Maradona's legacy".
