The cliché sparked a controversy.
On November 11, Leonardo Luque, Diego Maradona's doctor, posted a photo in which he appears next to the Argentinian, a few hours after his operation for a bruise on his head.
“El Pibe de Oro” appears there smiling, with a substantial bandage on his head.
A photograph little appreciated by the family of the 1986 World champion, according to information from Clarin, an Argentinian daily.

Leonardo Luque apologized and explained that he had "never intended to provoke a conflict": "I want to apologize to those who were offended [...] I thought it was was an image that would erase the one Diego left on the day of the match against Patronato (very weakened on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday).
The photo is the result of an agreement with Diego.
I want to clarify that it was not my decision.

He was asking me more than I was asking him, he clarified.
Diego Maradona died on Wednesday following a cardiac arrest.
