The English Football Federation (FA) is investigating a comment posted this Sunday on Instagram by Edinson Cavani, after his decisive double with Manchester United on the lawn of Southampton (3-2).
The Uruguayan striker risks several matches of suspension according to the English media.
In response to a congratulatory message sent to him, the top scorer in PSG history (200 goals in 301 matches), who arrived this summer in the north of England, would have written in Spanish “Gracias negrito” ( thank you little black), according to the press agency PA (Press Association).
The Mancunian club, opposed to Paris on Wednesday in the Champions League, immediately informed their player that the use of such a term in the United Kingdom was against the rules set by the FA, and Cavani deleted its publication.
Infractions sanctioned last season
The Red Devils defended their Uruguayan striker, explaining that the word was used with friendly intent, and that it carried a different connotation in South America.
Before the start of the season, the English Federation published instructions to combat racist or discriminatory behavior and comments.
Infractions on social networks are punishable by a minimum suspension of three matches.
Last season, Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) and Dele Alli (Tottenham) were suspended for one game after exceeding these instructions.
In Ligue 1, Neymar and Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez were, last September, also at the center of supposed exchanges of racist and homophobic comments during the meeting which saw the victory of OM at the Parc des Princes (0-1 ).
