Tops / Flops OM-Olympiakos: Payet finally at the rendezvous, the Greeks too shy

2020-12-02T12:01:32.998Z

Dimitri Payet delivered OM against a too little dangerous Olympiakos like Youssef El Arabi: find the tops / flops of Marseille-Olympiakos (2-1).

TOPS

Dimitri Payet had strong nerves

Like all his partners, he was not very successful in the first half.

These set pieces suffered in particular from the defensive strength of Olympiakos in the air.

In the second half, he was one of those who sounded the revolt, as on this corner for Caleta-Car (47th).

But it was he who opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a first intervention by the VAR for a foul on Thauvin.

After missing his attempt in Porto (3-0), the Reunionese had very strong nerves when it came to sending the ball into José Sa's skylight. His joy spoke volumes after scoring his first goal in this competition ( for his 20th game).

The first for OM almost seven years later (the last scorer was Souleymane Diawara against Dortmund, 1-2 on December 11, 2013).

Twenty minutes later, Dimitri Payet did it again with an identical penalty (75th).

The number 10 Olympian, who appeared released, as relieved of a weight all the second half, defeated the Indian sign to keep OM alive in Europe.

1 - Dimitri Payet scored his 1st goal for his 20th Champions League match in his career (10 with Marseille, 10 with Lille).

Deliverance.

Caleta-Car, like a rock

The Croatian has regained his starting place following the defeat of Leonardo Balerdi against Porto last week (0-2).

And he seems determined to keep it.

Sharp in his interventions, the Marseille central defender turned off Youssef El Arabi throughout the match.

It is he who takes away the ball from the opening of the scoring by returning like a ball (31st).

Sometimes in the air or in the feet, Caleta-Car won his duel with the Moroccan.

It was also he who sounded the Olympian revolt with a header from a corner at the start of the second half (47th).

Marious Vrousai, great find

Established for the first time at this level, the young left winger (22 years old) had the heavy task of replacing Mathieu Valbuena, injured.

Countered in the area from the start (12th), the Greek was in all good shots for Olympiakos.

His speed made it possible to carry out the fast transitions against, as on the goal of Mady Camara where he showed great lucidity before serving the Guinean in withdrawal (33rd).

Also active in the recovery, as on this return to Thauvin (41st), he was one of the only Greeks active in the second half and still had juice to deposit Rongier in the area (65th).

Hit in the head after a duel with Sakai, he never gave up until his exit in stoppage time.

FLOPS

Michaël Cuisance did not take his chance

Brilliant against Nantes on Saturday (3-1), the attacking midfielder on loan from Bayern had a hard time existing for an hour.

In his defense, his time spent on the meadow corresponds to the bad period for OM.

Aligned in a role of number 10 which befits his qualities, the Alsatian is not at the origin of any dangerous action on the Marseille side.

He appeared lost on the field before giving way to Morgan Sanson in the wake of Payet's equalizer (55th).

Youssef El Arabi did not weigh

If Duje Caleta-Car shone, it's because he got the better of Youssef El Arabi.

Back in the Olympiakos squad this weekend after contracting the coronavirus, the Moroccan had a hard time weighing.

His entry header (13th) nevertheless suggested that he was in leg.

But he never made a difference afterwards.

Too imprecise, as on this backtracking which could have led to a goal from Thauvin (19th), he then gradually disappeared from the radar.

He stayed on the pitch until the end, but was flagged offside twice late in the game.
