On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the General Sports Federation, in cooperation with the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Syria, held a sports festival in the October gymnasium.
Dozens of athletes, including special sports champions and national team players, participated in performing shows in physical strength, and teams from the Sports Federation gave everyone dancing panels in Zumba, Aerobics and Yoga.
In a statement to SANA, Vice President of the General Sports Federation Omar Al-Aroub stressed that the celebration of the International Day of the Disabled is a well-established tradition for the federation that pays great attention to this segment in appreciation of the role it plays and its talent for innovation and creativity in addition to raising awareness in society of the rights of this segment of humanity So that he works to integrate her into society and make her feel safe and have a decent life.
In turn, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Syria, Philip Shabouri, explained the importance of this occasion, as the Day of People with Disabilities is for all athletes, and the aim of the festival is to emphasize the role of this segment and work to bring the idea of integrating the disabled into society, noting that sports are no longer exercises related to winning or losing only, but rather In turning people with disabilities into champions, they can also participate in challenges and tournaments.
At the end of the festival, the opening match of the wheelchair basketball Republic Championship kicked off between the teams of Aleppo and Homs, noting that it will continue until the seventh of this month, and eight teams are participating in it: Aleppo, Homs, Damascus, Rural Damascus, Quneitra, Hama, Tartous and Lattakia.
