Washington and Houston completed a huge trade in the NBA tonight (Wednesday-Thursday), with two of the league's biggest contracts - John Wall ($ 132 million for 3 years) and Russell Westbrook ($ 133 million for 3 years) - swapping teams.

The Wizards even sent along with their comeback coordinator a first-round pick, and both teams are hoping the star duo will recover in the new uniform.

According to ESPN, contacts between the Wizards and the Rockets began several weeks ago, but were recently halted.

On Tuesday, general managers Tommy Shepherd and Rafael Stone contacted once again, and this time managed to reach a conclusion.

Both teams have the same interest: convincing big stars Bradley Bill on one side and James Harden on the other to stay, and maybe even sign new contracts.

Houston is desperate to try and please the man and the old man and according to reports, does not intend to move him in the trade before the start of the season.

If you do, you will require back a package that includes a star, draft picks and young players.

Westbrook may have finished its only season in Houston with a typical 27.2 point average, 7.9 rebounds and 7 assists per game, but once again left a bad taste after a tough playoff.

He is now reuniting with his first coach of his career, Scott Brooks who has successfully coached him at Oklahoma City, hoping to once again become one of the best players in the league.

"Russell's accomplishments on the pitch speak for themselves, but it is his drive to win that makes him a truly unique player," the coach said.

"A person close to Westbrook told me that Washington was his favorite destination," tweeted journalist Michael Lee.

"He was curious to play with Bill and excited to reunite with Brooks. I don't remember an Allstar who wanted to play in Washington, that means something."

The media in Washington complimented GM Shepherd on the deal.

"This is a perfect example of how this club has changed," wrote Chase Hughes of NBC Sports.

"In years past the Wizards have not made such aggressive moves. It's a big change."

Shepherd himself said: "We could not give up on the possibility of getting someone at Russell's level, both in the short term and in the future. However, breaking up with Wall, one of the greatest players in the history of our club, was very difficult. We will never forget everything that contributed to this club."

The Washington Post also analyzed the huge deal and signaled possible losers in the form of the Wizards' young players - notably Danny Abdia and Roy Hachimura: "Washington hopes the bloody back line will lead to a playoff spot. "Young in his 11 seasons at Thunder, which could make it harder for Abdia and Hachimura."

In a separate column written by Ben Gulliver from the same paper, he expanded, adding: "Shepherd has acquired some not-so-bad talent in the last two drafts, players like Hachimura and Abdia, who may find themselves watching Westbrook's show some of the time."

Wall, for his part, has not played basketball since December 2018 and missed two consecutive seasons due to serious knee injuries.

It was recently claimed in Washington that he has fully recovered and is in excellent shape ahead of the season opener.

"As I understand it, he's in shock," Chris Miller of NBC Sports wrote.

"From what I hear, Harden will want to stay in Houston and play with him."

Mark Stein of the New York Times also echoed similar things: "Houston insisted on reviving the season with Harden and rebuilding relations with him before considering a trade."

CBS Sports estimated that Washington had won the deal.

"The upgrade in the position of coordinator was done to impress Bill," it read.

"It's significantly better today than it was yesterday. The Wizards have upgraded Wall's position without taking any more future money or exposing themselves to significant difficulties later on, and that's a big win."

And what about Houston's plans?

"If the plan is to eventually move Arden, Wall is probably better suited than Westbrook, because the Rockets have a very short window to rebuild, and that will allow them to be even weaker in the coming seasons. Being bad with Westbrook is almost impossible - he led a team without Durant For 47 wins and a place in the playoffs. "

Reactions in the league: Demarcus Cousins will collaborate in Houston with his friend from Kentucky

"Everyone should beware of the Wizards!"

Past legend tweeted from Magic Johnson.

"A pair of Westbrook and Bill will terrorize the East and turn Washington into a playoff team."
