Former Argentine national soccer coach Alejandro Sabella has died at the age of 66.
This was confirmed by the national association AFA.
The former national player had coached the Albiceleste from 2011 to 2014 and led them to the final at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Argentina lost to the German team after extra time with Mario Götze's winning goal.
Sabella then resigned from his office.
Sabella had been treated in a hospital since the end of November and his condition had deteriorated extremely in the past few days.
According to media reports, Sabella succumbed to heart disease.
Argentine football is mourning its second major loss within two weeks.
The Argentine icon Diego Maradona died of a heart attack at the end of November.
