Alex Morgan: US soccer star scores first goal for Tottenham

A quick run-up, a dry shot, cheers: Alex Morgan has scored for Tottenham Hotspur for the first time.

In Spurs' 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion, the striker converted a penalty in the 84th minute to make the final score.

Before that, Kerys Harrop (11th minute) and Angela Addison (63rd) scored for Tottenham and Inessa Kaagman for Brighton (33rd / penalty).

It was the 31-year-old Morgan's first goal in the English Women's Super League.

In September, the US international moved to England from the USA, she came on loan from Orlando Pride until the end of the year, but the loan can be extended until the end of the season.

It was Morgan's first competitive goal since the World Cup semi-finals between the USA and England in July 2019. In the 2-1 success of the Americans, she scored the winning goal and celebrated it with the now famous tea-drinking pose.

Morgan and the USA won the World Cup, the attacker contributed six hits and three assists;

for her it was already the second title after 2015. Later Morgan took a longer break, last May she gave birth to her first child.

In the Tottenham jersey, she had only played three short appearances so far and was without a goal, she was now in the starting line-up against Brighton & Hove - promptly the team in relegation battle celebrated their first league win of the season.

That could also have been because the Spurs started with a new coach.

Rehanne Skinner made her debut as head coach.

With six points after eight match days, Tottenham is ninth in the twelve-team league.

For an ultimately carefree season, a few more good Morgan appearances should follow.

Morgan is currently under contract in Europe for the second time.

In 2016 she was on loan to Champions League winner Olympique Lyon for half a year.

She is also one of the most prominent female soccer players off the field.

Thanks to numerous advertising contracts with large companies such as Nike and Coca-Cola, she is the soccer player with the highest income in the world, according to the business magazine Forbes.
