Mick Schumacher has won the biggest title of his career to date. For the 21-year-old, this is not just a championship, it is also the perfect way to end his Formula 2 years.

Mick Schumacher won the Formula 2 title.

Thanks to a comfortable point lead, the Prema driver achieved 18th place in the last race of the season to stay ahead of his last remaining competitor Callum Ilott in the overall standings.

Jehan Daruvala secured victory in Bahrain.

The two-time season winner Schumacher started the 24th race of the season with 14 points ahead of Ilott.

Only 17 points were left to win, Ilott should have finished second and turned the fastest lap to catch Schumacher.

The Briton did not get past eleventh place.

Schumacher is the fourth German Formula 2 champion after the later Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg (2005), Timo Glock (2007) and Nico Hülkenberg (2009).

It's the perfect way to end Schumacher's Formula 2 years.

The 21-year-old will be a regular driver for the American Haas team in the premier class of motorsport next year.

Eight years after father Michael Schumacher's career ended, son Mick received a contract "for several years".

His future teammate, Nikita Mazepin, sponsored by his wealthy father Dimitri, is also a newcomer to the top formula class.

Schumacher's rise was carefully planned.

As in Formula 3, in which he won the European Championship title in 2018, he only got going in the second-highest category in the second year.

In Formula 1 he will now compete for a team that disappointed this year.

Since neither the rules nor the cars will change significantly in the coming year, Schumacher and Mazepin's chances of success in sport are initially low.

Team boss Günther Steiner sees the new additions as part of the new structure, and Haas wants to start again in 2022.

"The prospect of being on the Formula 1 starting grid next year makes me incredibly happy and simply speechless," Schumacher said at the announcement on Wednesday.

"I've been chasing this dream since I was three years old."

Mick Schumacher's father Michael won a total of seven world titles and won 91 races.

Since a skiing accident in the French Alps in 2013, the now 51-year-old has been sheltered from the public.

He is relaxing with his family on Lake Geneva.
