The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg have clearly won at the start of the Champions League season.
In the first leg of the sixteenth finals, coach Stephan Lerch's team achieved a 5-0 (3-0) win at Spartak Subotica.
Five years ago VfL traveled to the Serbian record champions, at that time the game ended goalless, only in the second leg did the Bundesliga club make everything clear with a 4-0 win.
This time, the Wolfsburg women are almost certain to make it to the round of 16 after the first leg.
As in previous years, the Wolfsburg women are among the favored teams for the title.
They won the competition in 2013 and 2014, but lost in 2020, 2018 and 2016 in the final against their permanent rivals from Lyon.

Zsanett Jakabfi (3rd minute) and Lena Oberdorf (8th), with their first goal in the premier class, gave Subotica an early lead.
VfL, without the injured Alexandra Popp and Ewa Pajor, were decisive for the game, Dominique Janssen increased with a free kick (33.), Jakabfi failed shortly before the break on the crossbar (42.).
The German national player Sara Doorsoun came on as a substitute in Subotica at the beginning of the second half, celebrating her return after a break of several months.
The 29-year-old injured her knee in the Champions League final against Olympique Lyon in August.
In the 55th minute of the game, the ball jumped against the crossbar again, this time after a shot by Felicitas Rauch, which Jakabfi (55th) reacted to.
After substitute Anna Pale had a header, Rauch scored the last goal of the game (77th).
With a more consistent exploitation of chances, the German double winner could have won the game even higher.
Subotica, which has never made it past the round of 32, needs a miracle in Wolfsburg on December 16.
