After 13 minutes of play, Sebastian Coltescu, on the sidelines, had asked the central referee, Ovidiu Hategan, to intervene against the assistant coach of the Turkish team, Pierre Webo.

“It's the Black (negru, in Romanian) here.

Go see and identify it.

This guy, the Negro, ”said Coltescu, who risks a very heavy sanction if the racist content of his words is confirmed.

As UEFA continues to investigate this incident, a voice has been raised to defend the Romanian referee.

John Barnes, icon of Liverpool and striker of the Reds for a decade (1987-1997), believes that Coltescu is not guilty of all the evils of which he is accused.

“Demba Ba told the referee that if the person concerned was white, you wouldn't say a white man.

But if there had been five black coaches and one white coach, he would have indicated "white".

What else can he say? ”Asked the former international (79 caps) on Twitter, before recalling that the word“ negru ”used by the referee simply meant“ black ”in Romanian and not "Negro".

Ba said if he was white u wouldnt say white guy ... but if there were 5 black coaches and 1 white coach .. he woukd have said “tge white one” ... what else could or should he say?
