Lille-PSG: Jordan Galtier is not a daddy's son

Jordan, 31, the first son of Christophe Galtier, leader of the championship with Losc who will face PSG on Sunday, also entered

Like his father, Jordan Galtier speaks fairly quickly, with a strong southern accent and an undeniable banter.

And like Christophe Galtier, he can dissect a ball exit from the opposing team or talk about planning training for long minutes.

At 31, the young man began a coaching career.

He is currently at the head of the under-19s of AC Ajaccio where he takes advantage of the lack of competition to work on the progression of the players: "I enjoy myself, it is the essence of training".

With an attentive eye on the matches or even the press conferences of Christophe, his father, leader of Ligue 1 with Lille, on the way to be sold.

"I don't want him to be 'the son of'"

Yet, it would be misleading to think that Jordan Galtier is a daddy's boy placed on the rails of social reproduction from an early age.

Even if the son has, like his father, (former player of OM and Lille, in particular) tried to make a professional career before joining the sidelines.

“He didn't push me at all, especially because my parents were already separated,” says Jordan, who lived with his mother after the divorce in his early years.

As I was not too bad at a certain age, I was spotted by training centers.

At 13, he was considered a great French hope and joined Auxerre on Guy Roux's pressing.

Due to recurring injuries, in particular, his career does not take off any higher than Ligue 2, in Arles-Avignon.

“At that time, with my father, we both knew it was going to be difficult for me,” says Jordan.

I didn't play a lot and I didn't want to leave the world of football.

(Ironic) I didn't see myself as a physical trainer given my athleticism.

So I started to graduate, and I liked it.

Before I started, I called my father, he advised me to spend a day to see if I wanted.

He incites, but he does not oblige.

He saw me going in that direction, for what reason, I don't know.

An independence also claimed by Christophe, who especially wishes that no merit is taken from his son: “I exchange with him, I let him come to me when he needs advice.

I don't want him to be "the son of".

He is a young coach and a former young player who did not make it out of the training center, like 95% of them.

He graduated and always made his decisions alone, from Lège-Cap-Ferret

(Editor's note: where he trained the under-11s, the under-17s and the first team in National 3)

to Ajaccio, where he responded to a job offer.

I never intervened.

"

At the school of merit, Jordan took additional passion and curiosity.

He already holds the diploma of trainer of the second national level (Desjeps) and launches out in the BEFF, which makes it possible in particular to manage a training center, in a promotion which features Nicolas Seube or Pierre-Alain Frau.

He devours everything that is offered to him.

“I'm very, very curious,” he says.

Even when I was coaching the under 11s it was the same.

I am studying tactical periodization, a method created by the Portuguese Victor Frade and notably used by José Mourinho and André Villas-Boas which encompasses the different factors of performance… I read a lot of Spanish and English documents.

It's good to look at what is being done in France, but it can give other ideas too.

I also use new technologies.

If my generation doesn't use it, who else will?

"

Fan of Barça, future opponent of PSG in the Champions League, Jordan Galtier changed his 3-4-3 to 4-4-2 this season to better fit with the first team.

The age of the budding coach ("12 years older than my players", he laughs, even if he sometimes calls them "the children") is an asset, according to his father: "He felt a big frustration when he hasn't made it professionally.

He was sad and confused.

All of this gave him extra motivation.

And when you haven't experienced certain things as a player, you have to go and find it somewhere else.

He immersed himself in documentation, in exchanges with each other.

He has an academic approach.

"

And the father-son bond in all of this?

A question that bothers two modest men a little.

Jordan describes an “affectionate and respectful” relationship and admits with a smile: “We only talk about football!

We have long discussions, we exchange tactically.

Obviously, I watch the Losc matches.

I ask him questions about his animation, his choices, and I learn.

I make sure not to disturb him too much.

We call each other about twice a week, sometimes five minutes, sometimes much longer.

I write a lot of things on my computer and reread them when I have a day off.

»Christophe corroborates:« I would not say that it changed our links, but it automatically gives more conversations when we are in the same corporation.

"

"I'm not trying to prove that I have a first name"

Even if it means working together one day?

A subject carefully avoided by the two men.

"I want him to be happy, and if he is without me, so much the better", eludes the father, who nevertheless follows his progress closely.

Jordan, for his part, projects himself into the world of training which fascinates him, even if he admits that a call from his father "would make him think".

The young man does not try to flee or to maintain parallels with his father: “I always feel that I am the son of Christophe Galtier.

It is not a motor, I am not trying to prove that I have a first name.

It is fashionable to talk about piston, people do not necessarily know all the work and the sacrifices upstream.

It does not bother me.

I'm proud of what he does, I don't have to worry about being Christophe Galtier's son.

There is worse !
