Washington Wizards Players Russell Westbrook Danny Abdia (Washington Wizards Official Website)

Just before the start of the regular season, Danny Abdia continues to show he deserves significant minutes in Washington.

The Israeli rookie made his third appearance in the NBA tonight (Saturday through Sunday) and locked up the Wizards' preseason games impressively, with his team defeating Detroit 96:99.

Abdia opened with a five for the second time out of three games in what could well be a sign of things to come, justifying the credit.

He finished the game with 9 points (3 of 8 from the field including 2 of 4 from three, 1 of 2 from penalties), reached 10 rebounds and added 3 steals and two assists, in his most varied pre-season game.

He also finished the game with a 6+ in the plus / minus index, the third highest in the team.

Washington introduced for the first time this season the acquisition in question Russell Westbrook and the candidate for the sixth player of the season Davis Bartans, and with the exception of Roy Hachimura who was absent due to injury, coach Scott Brooks received a full squad.

Even in this state of affairs, Abdia got the keys in the small forward position, and although he looked a bit hesitant in the first half mostly on the offensive side, he was able to contribute in other aspects.

He was often given the difficult defensive task of stopping Blake Griffin - which was not easy for him.

Abdia recorded most of the positive action in the third quarter, where Westbrook and Bartans were already on the bench, allowing Rocky to be more involved in offensive decision-making.

In that quarter he scored his two threes in the game, one from a dribble with a bodyguard and another that interrupted a run by the Pistons, giving the Wizards a breather.

Abdia returned to the floor in the final minutes of the final quarter and although he did not add points to his balance sheet and was not particularly involved on the offensive side, he assisted on the rebound and made two proper defensive stops in the final minute.

Leading the Wizards for most of the game was center Thomas Bryant, who scored 22 points and added seven rebounds.

Bradley Bill finished with 15 and 5 assists, while Russell Westbrook settled for 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in his new team debut.

Now Abdia and the Wizards seem ready for the real thing: the regular season opener game against Philadelphia on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
