Danny Abdia's deterioration until the ninth pick on draft night surprised many, but it turns out that for Washington, the team that ultimately picked him, it was a double and multiplied joy.

NBC revealed tonight (Tuesday) that the Wizards almost made a trade on the night of the draft with Chicago for the fourth pick, to ensure that they choose the Israeli rookie.

The deal eventually fell through at the last minute because the Wizards felt the Bulls were demanding too much of a price.

At this point, the Wizards have already come to terms with the fact that Abdia will not be coming.

But then the election continued, and more groups gave it up.

Until the last minute, the Wizards were convinced the Knicks would pick Abdia in the eighth pick.

He eventually came to Washington, and they seemed very pleased with it.

"Danny has a calm and mature personality. His conduct is very impressive," Washington coach Scott Brooks praised today, in training ahead of the regular season opener against Philadelphia on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

"He's not trying to do more than he knows how to do at this point. As a player who does a little bit of everything, he has the potential to become a star. In any case, even off the field he is an asset. He brings great energies to the team."

For a long article about Abdia on the NBC network, Avi Even, director of the scouting and player development department at Maccabi Tel Aviv, and who brought Abdia to the team when he was 14, was also interviewed.

"What is special about Danny is his passion for the game. Said Stone.

"From the moment he joined our youth department, I knew he would reach the senior team. We all knew it. He just had it. He put in a tremendous effort to become a player. Every training session for him, was the most important thing. He worked so hard. This young guy "He is very stubborn. He is willing to work very hard even when he is exhausted. He never stops working hard. He never stops learning."
