According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), the Swiss Federal Court has granted the appeal of the former swimming star Sun Yang and overturned the judgment of the International Sports Court Cas of February 20.
The reason for this step is not yet available.
Wada does not want to accept the decision and announced in a statement that it would take measures "to convincingly present its case again if the matter goes back to the CAS panel."
This should give Yang a second hearing in front of the Cas.
There were initially no further comments.
At the end of February, the 29-year-old Chinese had an eight-year ban from the Cas, which would actually have meant the end of the career of the multiple Olympic and world champion.
Sun Yang's lawyers filed an appeal with the Swiss federal court.
Sun Yang had already "definitely" announced a complaint after the Cas judgment and claimed: "This is unfair.
I firmly believe in my innocence. ”In the case, it was mainly about a swimmer's doping sample from autumn 2018 that was destroyed with a hammer;
the athlete's environment was directly involved.
The world federation Fina had nevertheless initially waived a ban, whereupon the Wada called the Cas.
Sun Yang had defended the crime by saying that the inspectors could not be sufficiently identified.
The Cas decided that this did not give him the right to destroy the sample.
Another contributing factor to the maximum sentence was that Sun Yang was a repeat offender.
In 2014 he was banned for three months for doping.
