Three years after doing so for the last time, Maccabi Tel Aviv won the Winner's Cup last night (Saturday) after a dramatic 84:86 victory over Hapoel Holon in Drive In.
Yannis Sapropoulos' team wins its first title for the 2020/21 season, hoping it will not be the last.
The Yellows did not look good in the first half and were already 13 points behind Holon, but a big second half led by Omri Caspi, who scored 3 threes on the way to an evening of 14 points, managed to close the gap on the way to victory.
Angelo Cloiaro with 15 points and 6 rebounds and Scotty Wilbkin with 14 points and 4 assists recorded a good game as well.
At the end, the Maccabi men looked happy with the win, with assistant coach Vasilis Yargotlis walking with the trophy to the locker room.
"We wanted this trophy, we were very focused. Last year we lost to Jerusalem at the end of the game, and it hurt. We did not want to sit on the sidelines and watch the other team lift the trophy this time," Angelo Cloiaro summed up the feeling. "We want to get into the pits and start chasing the rivalry again. Holon plays a certain way, it throws a lot of threes, all the players on the field can score. They scored a very good percentage tonight, but it was very important to stay focused."

Zenit, Jerusalem, Derby: Preparations for the challenging week begin
The forward, who last season returned to the Yellows' rotation due to Omri Caspi's injury, spoke about his friend's ability.
"Omri was great. Whether he scores like that or not, he is the playmaker, he knows how to pass the ball and he is so smart, he is a great player. He is looking for the free player, he is not dangerous just in shooting, he talks to the other players and explains to them, he Just a smart player with a high IQ. "
The team believes that despite the fact that in the last two games, Yannis Sapropoulos chose to "come down" on Yuval Sussman and bench him for long minutes, the move will only make the player return better later.
"Yannis knows what he's doing with Yuval," said one of the team members, "he treats him like a very senior player, and he expects a lot from him."
The Yellows will start preparations for the game against Zenit St. Petersburg today, which will begin a difficult week of games for the Yellows.
After the game on Tuesday, Maccabi will meet Hapoel Jerusalem in the league on Thursday and next Sunday Hapoel Tel Aviv in the quarterfinals of the State Cup.
