Danny Abdia scores threes in the warm-up before the game against Orlando (from Twitter)

While Washington continues to falter, Danny Abdia continues to show signs of progress.

The Israeli rookie recorded his best game tonight (Sunday to Monday) since the start of the NBA season, scoring 9 points, taking down 9 rebounds, handing out 3 assists and snatching twice against Orlando.

Unfortunately, his positive display ended in a sour taste, after the Wizards dropped a 17-point lead in the final quarter, losing 120: 113 and remaining undefeated in the first three games of the season.

In the absence of Russell Westbrook who got a rest, Abdia got a chance to be more involved in the offense, threw 11 times from the field (and scored 4) and also handed out 3 assists, one of them to the crazy basket of the night in the NBA - Robin Lopez hooking a hook from a hard angle, without looking at the basket .

"Danny Abdia is good at everything," tweeted reporter Becca Winkert.

Reporter Quinton Mayo of NBC tweeted a video with Abdia's move in a post-up that ended in a handsome basket, writing: "Danny Abdia is supposed to be a rookie, but when you watch it you can't guess it."

Fred Katz from Athletic was impressed with Abdia's defense, noting: "I did not expect Abdia to be so good on defense immediately. I had no idea."

Journalist Mike Prada also liked the diversity he saw from Abdia and wrote: "Abdia shows how versatile he is. In every game he shows more and more abilities."

9 points and 9 rebounds for Danny Abdia, Washington still without a win

Either way, despite Abdia’s encouraging performance, Washington is licking its wounds after another loss, trying to decipher what is leading to a recurring problem in recent quarters.

The Wizards lost close games in all three games, and the numbers show they are not functioning in the decisive quarter: they averaged no less than 40.3 points on average in those games, allowing the rivals to score no less than 61.6 percent from the field.

Tonight was also the one who criticized coach Scott Brooks' substitution management, and the quintet that stayed with her in the closing minutes.

This quintet did not include Abdia, who went down to the bench with five minutes left and did not return to the floor.

Troy Brown, one of the players struggling with him for minutes in the small forward position, was given priority this time - a decision that one of the Wizards' letters called "puzzling."

At the end, Brooks explained the decisions he made in the last quarter, including the five he raised for the final minutes.

"Danny played a lot of minutes in a row, he needed air to breathe. When I put him down on the bench, I think he finished 24 minutes straight on the floor," Brooks said.

"Obviously we needed him, but I have no regrets. Troy (Brown) had one of his best games, and Davis Bartans is an experienced player with the shooting ability you want to be on the pitch in crucial minutes. I think the exchange management was good."

Bradley Bill who scored 29 points and handed out 7 assists, was a little less forgiving in relation to the loss.

"We were too relaxed in the last quarter," he said of losing the big advantage at the end.

"We didn't put in enough effort, and the NBA pays for it very quickly. It's not acceptable to lead by that margin and throw the game to hell."

"Who believed he would be so good on defense?"

Washington's chain of losses has made the Wizards' writers understand the hearts of Israeli basketball fans who are closely following Abdia's exploits, waking up in the middle of the night to watch the games.

CBS reporter Chase Hughes tweeted a screenshot with a response from an Israeli surfer who wrote to him: "We get up in the middle of the night in Israel !! When will we win?".

"Danny Abdia's fans are learning in real time what it feels like to be a Washington fan," Hughes wrote.

In his concluding column for the game, Hughes specifically addressed the loss and personal matchup he had in tonight's game against Orlando rookie Cole Anthony, who finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

In his view, Abdia, who was selected ninth in the draft and Anthony, who was selected 15, illustrate that this cycle is far from as weak as NBA commentators in the United States have estimated.

"Abdia and Anthony are already showing very positive signs. They look like promising players already at the start of the season, and this is already a trend that can be seen in more Rockies across the NBA," Hughes wrote.

"It's significant because they said there was a shortage of talent in this round. Days will tell if Draft 2020 will grow stars on changing the league, but the talent everyone can already see. Anthony Edwards in Minnesota and James Weissman in Golden State, look very good. Tyrese Haliberton from Sacramento and Fresh. "Achiva from Miami are showing sparks. And Abdia and Cole Anthony are also able to influence their teams immediately."
