Less than two weeks before the January transfer window opened, Premier League teams received a late-night notice last night (Sunday) from the Football Association stating that it would not be possible to land foreign players in the country until further notice.
The teams initially wondered if these were only players who were supposed to take the tests, but the association clarified that these were also players who had signed contracts.
The association's announcement was sent after the sporting director announced that he would not consider any candidacies for the landing of foreign athletes in the near future.
The clubs hope that the decision made following the third closure will change quickly, and the association is working to facilitate even without approval for the tests - will at least allow the signing of new players.
Many teams have been following reinforcements ahead of January and have already begun contacts with some of them, but now there is concern.
"It's a hard blow if it does not work out soon," said a source at one of the clubs in the Premier League. "There are quite a few teams that are already in negotiations with foreigners and if it is impossible to close with them - it is not certain that those players will wait."

The transfer window will open on January 10 and run until February 2.
If the closure lasts for more than two weeks and the decision remains unchanged, the groups will enter the window without the possibility of adding new foreigners.
