The Croatian opponent he was waiting for his next duel having injured himself, the Olympic champion should play his 10th professional fight

It is the Belgian press which, this Wednesday afternoon, released the name of his next opponent: Tony Yoka should face the Belgian of Congolese origin Joël Tambwe Djeko for his 10th fight among the professionals.

This would be scheduled at the end of February, most likely in Nantes where Tony Yoka already fought at the end of November.

"We are always very well received in Nantes where we feel good," says Jérôme Abiteboul, the promoter of Yoka.

It is not yet known whether the public will be able to attend the meeting which will offer, as a stake, a European belt of the EBU (the European federation of professional boxing).

It will depend on the evolution of the pandemic.

It could be, in case of victory, the first title among the pros for the French.

The Belgian was not the name that was initially expected against the Olympic heavyweight champion.

Originally, Yoka had to challenge the Croatian Petar Milas for the European belt of the category.

But the Croatian injured himself and had to forfeit.

A place in the global Top 10

In their conquest towards the heights of Noble art, Tony Yoka and his entourage are starting to get used to this kind of adventure.

Also the victim of a broken hand after his fight in November won by points against the German Christian Hammer, Yoka set out to find a new opponent capable of bringing him serious opposition.

And the candidates do not rush to challenge the world number 12 in the category.

The choice therefore fell on Joël Tambwe Djeko.

Leaving the light-heavyweight category, the 31-year-old Belgian has a record of 17 victories, including 8 before the limit, 1 draw, 2 losses on points.

On paper, Djeko should not be an insurmountable opponent for Tony Yoka who, if successful, will enter the world Top 10 for good and will be able to face the best heavyweights in the world from the spring.
